Highlights
  • This study is the first to evaluate the reproducibility of age at menarche between self-respondents and proxy respondents using appropriate measurements.
  • Age at menarche obtained from questionnaires with a 9-year interval showed moderate reproducibility among self-respondents, which was maintained even at older ages.
  • While proxy respondents tended to show lower reproducibility compared to self-respondents, spouse proxy respondents showed the highest reproducibility, and parent proxy respondents showed the lowest reproducibility among proxy respondents.
  • Additional data are required to establish appropriate methods for handling specific proxy responses.
